Oklahoma Czech Festival
Since 1966, Oklahoma Czechs, Inc. has hosted the Oklahoma Czech Festival as a way of preserving and sharing the customs and heritage the Czech and Slovak immigrants brought from their homeland. Yukon is proudly known as the Czech Capitol of Oklahoma and celebrates its rich culture throughout the year.
The Oklahoma Czech Festival is held annually on the 1st Saturday of October and gives festival goers a taste of Czech culture including food, music, dancing, traditional kroje (costumes) and imported merchandise.
The festival officially kicks off at 10 a.m. with one of the state’s largest parades on Yukon’s Main Street, a stretch of Historic Route 66. Oklahoma Czech Royalty Pageant contestants will be featured in the parade along with Czech dancers, local businesses, civic and youth groups.
Following the parade, festivities shift to the Oklahoma Czech Building on 5th Street, one block north of Main Street. A variety of family entertainment will be provided throughout the day including polka music, traditional fold dancing and singing, carnival rides, a top-rated arts & crafts show with more than 150 booths. Traditional Czech foods including kolace, klobasy sandwiches, and dinners will also be available for purchase.
The Czech Festival concludes with the Oklahoma Czech-Slovak Royalty Coronation Ball at the Yukon Czech Hall, 205 N. Czech Hall Road.
